This year’s seminar took place on a particularly significant date — 11 September, marking 25 years since the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, an event that fundamentally changed the way aviation security is understood, regulated and implemented worldwide. The anniversary provided a fitting moment to reflect not only on how far aviation security has developed over the past quarter of a century, but also on how the threat environment continues to evolve.
This year also marked the ninth edition of our annual Seminar on Developments in Civil Aviation Security, bringing together more than 30 participants from aviation organisations across Estonia. Once again, the seminar provided an opportunity to step away from day-to-day routines, exchange experience and discuss how the aviation security environment is evolving in practice. The programme brought together an impressive group of speakers and experts from different fields.
The value of the seminar lies not only in presenting regulatory changes, but also in bringing together people who face similar security challenges in different parts of the aviation sector. Discussions between participants remain an important part of the event and help translate regulatory requirements, emerging threats and expert knowledge into practical solutions.
Training note: The seminar provides aviation security instructors with an excellent opportunity to refresh their knowledge and remain up to date with current developments in the field. For aviation security managers, the seminar constitutes recurrent training in accordance with point 11.2.5 of Regulation (EU) 2015/1998.
